It’s the most important tool in any business, but it takes forever. Somebody should redo (yes yes.. I know it’s not possible) the email protocols and improve their performance.

Well, technically speaking the SMTP protocol is quite fast although LMTP is faster. No doubt there. My point is that on the transport layer of emails, there is not really any problems.
I really don’t see any problem with the current email protocol’s, sure, streaming compression in IMAP would be great, but, well, why don’t you just … not receive that many mails? They can’t all be legitimate :)
