A small tribute to bitbucket & mercurial!

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Very often people spend their time complaining about the tools that make their lives miserable and tedious. Others build tools to improve the tools to make them somewhat less miserable… But in 99% of the cases, the end result is still a tool that makes you miserable. We really spend to little time praising the good tools, so I’ll try to rectify that a bit.

At work we used to work with SVN and often we wanted to kill ourselves when merging between branches. We have now moved on to mercurial, hosted on bitbucket and it’s simply fantastic. I just realized how much time I would have used today if I had still been stuck without mercurial and bitbucket.. A lot..

So a small tribute to the people who created mercurial and Jesper (who created bitbucket). Today would have sucked without you.

BitBucket rocks

Earlier today Jesper showed me around at BitBucket and it’s simply fantastic. Currently I have all my private source code in a subversion repository at work, but I’m changing one of the next days. I really think it’s one of the coolest web based system around.
